Two 6 and 7-year-old sisters are orphaned after their uncle shot and killed their parents and critically injured their aunt at their grandmother's Harrisburg home earlier this week, shortly after being freed from prison for child molestation and sexual assault.

Meredith Greene and Tyler Thames were shot and killed by Gregory Gerrod Greene Jr. at the home of Greene's mother, former City Councilwoman Sandra Reid, around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, police said.

Greene— who was released from prison for raping a child in 2016 after serving four years— also stabbed his young nieces during the attack, police said.

In January, he violated a PFA against his sister, Brittonie Meredith, and was detained, court documents show. He was released on Feb. 2, one week before the attack that killed Greene and Thames, and critically injured Meredith, who remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Greene was ultimately taken into custody after a pursuit in which he struck multiple vehicles along the way.

A GoFundMe for the family had raised more than $13,800 as of Thursday, Feb. 10.

Greene and Thames had gotten engaged Aug. 10, 2021, according to Meredith Greene's Facebook profile page.

One of their friends commented on the photos Thames posted of the engagement writing, "My favorite picture of you two."

Reid suffered a stroke last year, and Greene had been taking care of her. While Reid was in the home at the time of the shooting and stabbing, she was unharmed, reports PennLive.

Thames was a class of 2011 graduate of CD East High School, according to his Facebook profile page. He was the former co-owner and delivery/assembly technician at Making Moves PA, he wrote on his page. Most recently was the co-owner/operating partner at Infinite Supplies LLC, he posted on his about section on his Facebook.

Thames's last Facebook post was praying for a loved one to have a successful surgery:

Their community is sharing about its loss on Facebook by posting photos of the couple and commenting on their walls, although there appears to be some confusion as people have been posting "RIP" on Brittonie Meredith's page even though she is alive.

Funeral and memorial service details for Greene and Thames have not been released.

Gregory Gerrod Greene Jr. remains in the Dauphin County Prison where he was denied bail for the charges of two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder, burglary and illegal firearm possession authorities say. Additional charges may follow, according to the Dauphin County district attorney's office.
